Emélie Hurtubise & Raphaël Beysang | Beaujolais| France

Emélie and Raphaël are emerging natural wine producers crafting vibrant, small-batch Gamay wines in the southern reaches of Beaujolais, in Saint-Germain-Nuelles on the outskirts of Lyon.

Deeply rooted in the natural wine movement, the pair met while working in the Auvergne alongside influential low-intervention winemakers, shaping their philosophy around organic farming, minimal intervention, and expressive terroir-driven wines.

Raphaël, from an Alsatian family of restaurateurs, honed his craft under respected winemaker Jean-Marc Dreyer, while Emélie brings an international perspective from her Canadian background. Since establishing their label in 2018, they have focused on old-vine Gamay across varied terroirs, from sandy soils used for their fresh Nouveau-style cuvées to limestone-rich parcels like Paltieries, where vines range from 30 to over 80 years old.

Their natural winemaking approach emphasises whole-bunch fermentation, gentle extraction, and ageing in large foudres, resulting in wines of purity, energy, and structure. Some cuvées are bottled in distinctive recycled one-litre bottles traditional to the region, reinforcing their sustainable ethos.

Known for their freshness, vivid dark-fruited profiles, and food-friendly character, these Beaujolais natural wines are best enjoyed slightly chilled, offering a lively and authentic expression of Gamay and place.
