Leah Angles | Roussillon | France

Léah Anglès began her wine career in 2014, working with the renowned Coume del Mas. She gained international experience during vintages in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, and Bordeaux, before returning to France to pursue an oenology degree at Montpellier. The first member of her family to enter the wine world, Léah brought a scientific curiosity from her BSc in chemistry into the art of winemaking, combining precision with a love of food and terroir-driven wines.

Her vineyards are scattered across dramatic parcels in Collioure and Banyuls, dominated by Grenache with some Syrah and Carignan. These steep, rocky hillsides of slate and schist overlook the Mediterranean and are shaped by the cool Tramontane winds, creating an extraordinary terroir. The resulting wines are electric, deeply expressive, and a true reflection of the Southern Roussillon landscape, making them stand out in any portfolio of natural wines.

In 2018, Léah began her own winemaking journey, and by 2020 she released her first wine under the ‘Divay’ label—meaning “Wine” in her mother’s ancestral Madagascan language. She has since moved into her own winery and now manages five hectares of vineyards entirely by hand, demonstrating her commitment to artisanal, terroir-driven winemaking.

Léah’s philosophy emphasizes tradition, purity, and minimal intervention. Her winemaking approach is hands-off, using only a tiny amount of SO₂ post-malolactic fermentation and none at bottling. She is focused not on early-picked, light, juicy wines, but on preserving the identity of Collioure and Banyuls. Her wines are deeply fruited, structured, and expressive of sun, schist, and place, showcasing the tension, amplitude, and unique depth of Southern Roussillon terroirs.

With a remarkable balance of precision, respect for terroir, and expressive style, Léah Anglès is undoubtedly a rising talent in French natural wine. Her Divay wines capture the spirit of Roussillon while pushing the boundaries of what this dramatic coastal region can produce, making her a winemaker to watch in the years ahead.
