2023 | Halcyon Days | Vermillion

$49.00

Description:

Primarily Sangiovese with 7% chardonnay, sourced from Andrew Colman’s certified organic Osawa vineyard in the Mangatahi subregion. Dark rosé or light red in colour, with lower ABV, great clarity of fruit and some lees influence

2023 was a testing year in Te Matau a Māui, as Cyclone Gabrielle battered Hawke’s Bay and the nearby coastline in February. Amy Hopksinson-Styles and Olly Styles saw reduced yields, but the fruit that survived ripened beautifully, and the wines they produced may be the best of their careers.

Part of the fruit was direct-pressed and part was macerated as a red before the two parcels were blended to create an ultra-light red. True to Amy and Olly’s approach, all work was done in tank to preserve energy, tension and purity of fruit — here yielding an exquisitely delicate yet vivid red-fruited Sangiovese (from some of the few Sangiovese vines in Aotearoa).

Precise and utterly delicious, this has become one of their most popular wines in recent years, and understandably so.
