2020/21 | Benoit Camus | Chateau Roulant

$65.00

Description:

Château Roulant is 100% Gamay grown around Ville-sur-Jarnioux in southern Beaujolais. Benoit Camus, who started his own project in 2006, farms five hectares of Gamay plus a tiny parcel of Chardonnay across eight low-intervention, sustainable parcels. Much of his crop is sold to négociant Philippe Jambon; only a few cuvées are bottled under his name, making them rare and sought-after (notably a praised 2011 Gamay).

Clay and limestone soils lend a mineral backbone and vibrant fresh fruit to this wine. Fermentation takes place in concrete vats, using whole bunches; the wine is pressed when optimal and bottled about ten months after harvest. Medium-bodied with concentrated dark-fruit flavours and pronounced minerality, it offers both structure and lively energy. Extended maceration enhances texture and makes this a delicious wine.
